Sonnet in Blue-Green
An Ode to Melancholia
Sonnet in Blue-Green
Muck of habit, reading yesterday’s news as if knowing the shape of catastrophe could force a more human confession from the depth of summertime blues. Sick with attention and holding faith like a dead drake shot at the pond which now hangs limply by my side its green head flashing dishonestly. Under water, there you felt free with webbed feet kicking the sky raking lake-grass with your bill, nibbling fleas in your under-down; who are now this last-rites supper I’ve written with blood and a feather. -

Masterfully in control. And that couplet’s a killer.
Oh my that poor drake! Did we shoot ourselves in the duck?
